Privacy policy
Last updated: 8 September 2026 (previous version 25 May 2018)
Your privacy is important to us. This policy, adapted from the Automattic privacy policy, follows a few fundamental principles:
- We are thoughtful about the personal information we ask you to provide and the personal information we collect through the operation of our services.
- We store personal information only for as long as we have a reason to keep it.
- We aim for full transparency on how we gather, use and share your personal information.
Who we are and what this policy covers
DomCop is an expired domain search tool. This policy applies to the information we collect about you when you use the website www.domcop.com (the "Services"). The controller of that information is Axeman Tech Pvt Ltd (see "Controller" below).
Information we collect
We only collect information about you if we have a reason to do so: to provide the Services, to communicate with you, or to make the Services better.
Information you provide to us
- Email address and password: you sign up for an account with an email address; we ask for nothing else. If you subscribe, our reseller FastSpring collects the billing details it needs and shares your name and country with us.
- Optional settings: your time zone, column layouts, saved searches, watchlist and exclude lists exist only to make the Services work for you.
- Linked accounts: if you link your own Ahrefs subscription, we store the access token to fetch Ahrefs data on your behalf; you can unlink it at any time.
- Communications with us: what you write to us through the contact form or by email.
Information we collect automatically
- Log information: like most online services we collect what browsers and servers make available: browser type, IP address, language, referring site, the date and time of access and the operating system.
- Session information: to enforce the two-device limit we record the IP address, user agent and time of each login; you can see and end your sessions on the account page.
- Cookies: we use a session cookie to keep you logged in, a "remember me" cookie if you ask for one, and a short-lived cookie for promotion codes. Google reCAPTCHA protects the registration, login and contact forms and sets its own cookies under Google's policy.
How and why we use information
- To provide the Services, for example to run your saved searches and send the digests you asked for;
- To develop and improve the Services, for example by adding features our users ask for;
- To monitor and analyse trends and understand how users interact with the Services;
- To monitor and prevent problems with the Services, protect their security, detect abuse and enforce our terms;
- To communicate with you about your account, your subscription and material changes to the Services.
Legal bases (European Union)
Our use of your information is based on the grounds that (1) it is necessary to fulfil our commitments to you under our terms of service or to administer your account; (2) it is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation; (3) it is necessary to protect your vital interests or those of another person; (4) we have a legitimate interest in using your information, for example to provide, improve and safeguard the Services and to communicate with you; or (5) you have given us your consent.
Sharing information
We do not sell our users' personal information. We share information only in these limited circumstances, with appropriate safeguards:
- Service providers: FastSpring (billing, as reseller of record), SendGrid (transactional email), Google (reCAPTCHA) and our hosting provider Linode/Akamai process data on our behalf as needed to run the Services.
- Employees and contractors: people who help us provide the Services and need the information to do so; they must follow this policy.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, sale of assets or acquisition, user information would likely be one of the assets transferred; this policy would continue to apply.
- With your consent or at your direction.
- Aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you, such as the statistics page.
- Legal requests: when required by law or to protect the rights, property or safety of DomCop or others.
How long we keep information
We discard information when we no longer need it for the purposes described above and are not legally required to keep it. Web server logs are kept for approximately 30 days. Per-user data (saved searches, watchlist, exports, exclude lists) of accounts whose subscription has lapsed is deleted six months after the lapse; paying customers keep their data for as long as they subscribe. Order records are kept as long as accounting rules require.
Security
While no online service is 100% secure, we work hard to protect information about you against unauthorised access, use, alteration or destruction and take reasonable measures to do so, including encrypted connections, hashed passwords and monitoring for attacks.
Choices
- Emails: digest mails carry an unsubscribe link and can be switched off per saved search. We may still send you messages about your account and legal notices.
- Cookies: you can set your browser to remove or reject cookies, with the drawback that you cannot stay logged in without them.
- Close your account: email support@domcop.com and we will close it. We may retain some information afterwards where reasonably needed to comply with legal obligations or for our legitimate business interests, as described above.
Your rights
If you are located in a country covered by the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or similar laws, you have the right, subject to legal exemptions, to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal data, to object to or limit our use of it, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Contact us at the address below to exercise these rights.
